While we are on the subject of Disney. What is your take on the short Mickey Mouse film 'Get A horse'?

I’m actually a huge fan of the Ub Iwerks/Walt Disney/Floyd Gottfredson Mickey stuff, so that cartoon was an absolute treat for me, especially hearing Uncle Walt as Mickey again. I regret that it came before a film I really disliked though. >.< I hope they release it as part of a Mickey & Friends set some time in the future.

When I think about it, it’s actually kinda terrible I’ve never watched Mulan all the way since I flippin’ know people who worked on it.

Right, I will fix that this weekend.

I desperately NEED your opinion on Mulan, my favourite princess! Minutes ago I didn't even know how I really want to know what you think about her, Kevin pls, pls

Truth be told, I have it on my dvd shelf but I’ve never actually watched it all the way through.

I will rectify that this weekend and get back to you, but from what I have seen of her, I’m sure I’ll love her. ;)

Rivers, I cry them. :D

Dude what is it with you and Disney princesses?

What is it with the UNIVERSE and Disney Princesses? :D

I would like to clarify that, despite my feelings on the main character, Beauty & The Beast is still an AMAZING film. :)

This might get me in trouble, but I never liked Belle, even when I was little. She always seemed elitist and that she didn’t even try to connect with anyone ‘cuz she thought her interests made her better than them. It really troubled me that everyone in town knew her name but, with the exception of Gaston, she didn’t bother to learn any of theirs. Everyone was either their occupation or nobody to her. And surely she could talk to the bookseller, right? She didn’t even address HIM by name and didn’t seem to care about him at all beyond how he served her interests. Even when I first saw this at the tender age of 12, I felt the villagers had every right to not like her.

I would often get into very heated arguments with my childhood & even adulthood friends (of which we were all book nerds as well) over this and I’ve yet to meet a single person who wholeheartedly agrees with my take on it (other than my punk-rock brother who thinks she’s a total hipster.)

I totally get why people rush to defend her ‘cuz on the surface, she seems like someone all us nerdy types can identify with, but I feel she is also a sobering example of how insular and condescending we can be about our culture sometimes, even long after that attitude stops serving as a defense mechanism and actually becomes a detriment to our social health. We get so wrapped up in ourselves that we fail to realize that we can learn and grow a lot more if we take an interest in other people, real non-fictional people, and not just the ones whose hobbies and worldview line up with our own. It’s risky sometime, but it can pay huge spiritual dividends. Trust me.

Though it’s funny to me now that I was actually an outcast within my peer group for casting a critical eye on a (seemingly self-imposed) outcast. :D Haha…I very much overthink and heavily project my outlook on things like this.

Ok now i’m curious on your take on Jasmine.

I drew this comic that pretty much summed it up.

It seems that my problems with both of these characters have roots in class issues. Again…overthinking. :D
