In reference to my last post about my Rainbow Brite toy bank repaint... Using some solid advice I got from folks here and on deviantArt, I decided to throw caution to the wind and paint her cheek star. Didn’t come out half bad and now she is complete. :D Thanks, gang!
A good friend of mine gave me this adorable Rainbow Brite bank from 1983 that she had when she was little. The plastic bank was looking a little worse for wear and her eyes had falled off. So after some priming and a couple hours of painting and detailing, I made her better than she was before…stronger…faster…etc. This was my first time doing this sort of thing, so I’m glad it came out okay. She’ll be displayed in my studio at the window.
This kinda thing is a huge help when I feel unable to draw. :)
*NOTE: I omitted the star on her cheek until such time as I feel comfortable painting it without making it look like crap, or I find a suitable decal. :D I’ll probably repost this when that happens.
UPDATE!! Cheek star is now painted! HUZZAH!

Thanks for the advice on how to tackle it, gang. :)
Come see me and Sarah this weekend at Animazement in the Raleigh Convention Center in North Carolina! I’ll be taking commission at con, but spots fill quickly so stop by early to request yours. We’ll also have plenty of books (including the brand new “Ensign Two: The Wrath of Sue”), prints, art cards, and other goodies. So, stop on by! We look forward to seeing you. :)
You’ve probably noticed I’ve been a little sparse on my updates and communication over the past few weeks, and even more so for the past couple days. I don’t like to air my personal business too much, but I feel I owe you guys an explanation. My grandma Beverly had been in several hospitals/recovery centers for heart problems since late March. We thought she was on the mend, but because of problems with her lungs, her condition took a turn for the worse. She passed away this past Thursday peacefully and among her friends and family.
We all loved her very much and this has been a crushing blow to all of us. To me personally, she was the only grandparent I ever actually had a relationship with and this is the first time I’ve ever had to cope with the death of a close family member. I’ve come to find out that I apparently deal with the grief by hiding in my house and distracting myself with just about anything that doesn’t involve other people, hence my radio silence over the weekend. I haven’t been able to draw or create much of anything either.
I have a convention appearance this weekend at Animazement in North Carolina and then the next weekend at Wizard World Philadelphia Comic Con. I’m hoping forcing myself to be around other people will be helpful and hopefully reignite my spark to draw again. I know it would make Grandma very sad to know that I wasn’t doing art on account of her passing, so I wanna dust myself off and get back on it as soon as possible.
In the meantime, I appreciate your kindness and your patience. Hopefully I’ll see some of you this weekend or the next and I promise I’ll reply to your messages and stuff over the next 2-3 weeks. Thanks everyone. And do me and yourself a favor, take a moment to let the ones you love know how much they mean to you and treasure every day you have with them. Our time together is too short, but genuine gratitude and appreciation always makes the most of it. Take care, gang.
Best,
K-Bo.

It’s me and Craig! XD
